UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to encourage the transformation of the Tri Dharma implementation in the community. This time the reinforcement by UNAIR was manifested in the role optimization of UNAIR institutions, centers, or scientific study groups.
Through the coordination of Institute of Social Sciences, Humanities and Business (LISHB), UNAIR held a Workshop and FGD on Wednesday-Thursday, November, 25-26, 2020 in Room 301, 3rd Floor, UNAIR Management Office Building. There were 29 UNAIR institutions, centers, or scientific study groups were invited. The focus of discussion was “Formulating a Community Development Model through Inter-Disciplinary Research in the Digital Age”.
Directorate General of Transmigration Areal Development of Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigrations Muhammad Nurudin; social science practitioner and researcher from UGM Nurhadi, Ph.D.; and Indonesian environmental activist Silverius Oscar Unggul became the speakers for the first day. On the second day, there will be a plenary discussion on the institute, centers and scientific study groups’ future strategic plans.
Head of UNAIR LISHB Prof. Dr. Musta’in, M.Si. stated that in the future UNAIR will performe to be a SMART University. One of the representations is in the form of increasing relevance and contribution of UNAIR to the development of superior resources and society for the progress of the nation.
“This institute (LISHB, ed) is intended to coordinate research centers and study groups towards results with a significant impacts for the community and society, “he said.
At the moment, UNAIR institutions, centers, or non-exact scientific study groups, added Prof. Musta’in, are spread across five faculties., Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Faculty of Humanities (FIB), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Faculty of Psychology (FPsi), and Faculty of Law (FH).
“The digital era encourages rapid social change, brings new problems. An integrated research model is needed which leads to a community development model that is in accordance with the dynamics and developments, “he said.
Meanwhile, UNAIR Vice Rector for Research, Innovation and Community Development Prof. Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, DEA, Drh., in his remarks said that UNAIR’s international recognition achievements on # 521-530 must be balanced with a greater impact on society. Optimizing the roles of institutions, centers, or scientific studies must be carried out.
“We still need to maximize the impact, the calling, or our products to society. UNAIR also established five engineering programs in STMM. This is part of maximizing contribution and impact to society, “he said.
Prof. Bambang stated that so far UNAIR has been focusing more on health science research. The latest achievement, we are ranked third for most productive university in the field. However, UNAIR also has potential in other fields, life science, social science , and the new engineering science.
“Inter-disciplinary research will continue to be encouraged. The role of social science and engineering must be improved because inter-disciplinary will have a wider impact than monodisciplinary to plan and implement, “he said. (*)
