FPK UNAIR Students Produce Non Alcohol Hand Sanitizer

UNAIR NEWS – A group of 4 students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine (FPK) of Universitas Airlangga have succeeded in producing non-alcohol hand sanitizer from fishery waste.

Hand sanitizer named CLUZER (Chitosan Waste Shrimp Hand Sanitizer) is the work of PKM-K by Albet Surya Kembara (Aquaculture 2016) as team leader, along with 3 other creative people namely Aditya Dwi Saputra (Aquaculture 2016), Vivy Hanum Melati (Aquaculture 2016), and Selvi Debi Savia Fitri (Aquaculture 2015).

Non-alcohol hand sanitizer by Albet and this team has a function as an antiseptic. Furthermore, it is non-alcoholic, more effective in killing bacteria, and the price is affordable.

“Our product is more effective at killing the bacteria on the hand than the products in the market,” Albet stated.

Albet also said that the background of this innovation was based on Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI). The survey recorded an increase in infant mortality in Riau Province caused by pathogenic bacteria that was spread by hand.

“From that fact, it is necessary to create hand sanitizer containing antibacterial compound which can be obtained from Chitosan of shrimp waste. Currently, hand sanitizer in the market is hand sanitizer made from alcohol, but alcohol itself is not good for our skin,” he explained.

Regarding the packaging, Albet explained that CLUZER itself is packed in a 60ml bottle which is practical and easy to carry everywhere.

“The portable packaging can increase sales of these products,” Albet said.

In the end, Albet believed that CLUZER is potential for sale in the market because of its affordable price, Rp.8,000 for a 60ml bottle.

“According to our own customers CLUZER very practical and the aroma of lemon is so refreshing that they do not need to wash hands again because of CLUZER,” he concluded.
