UNAIR NEWS Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) continues to produce graduates who contribute across diverse professional fields. Among them are Raindra Daksina and Natricia Waseanti Kawania, alumni of the Faculty of Fisheries UNAIR, who now lead CV UMT TRANSINDO as owner and manager. Their journey highlights how persistence and determination can drive entrepreneurial success.

Kawania has seven years of experience in the marketing division of a state-owned insurance company. She said she has always enjoyed engaging with people, as well as promoting and selling products. Together with her husband, she began developing their business shortly after graduation. “Initially, I was only an investor. I still remember using my parents’ severance pay to purchase our first car, and that car became the starting point of where we are today. We began with just one vehicle, and now, thankfully, we operate dozens,” she said.

Persistence drives growth

Kawania explained that consistent effort has enabled the car rental business to grow steadily over time. Starting as an investor, she eventually became the owner of a car rental company in Surabaya. “The company was formally established at the end of 2025. Our goal was to expand and create a legally recognized entity so we can collaborate with institutions and major vendors,” she said.

She acknowledged that the journey has involved significant challenges. However, she and her husband have developed strategies to address them. “The most memorable experiences are often the difficult ones. We once had a car taken by a renter who never returned it. Since then, we have implemented stricter data verification before allowing customers to rent our vehicles,” she added.

Keys to business success

Kawania emphasized that beyond financial capital, courage plays a crucial role in starting a business. She believes that even with limited resources, a business can grow when supported by determination and commitment. “Stay fully focused on the business you are building. A business managed with full dedication will produce very different outcomes compared to one handled without full commitment,” she said.

In closing, Kawania invited the Universitas Airlangga academic community to follow her social media account, umttransport. She also encouraged those seeking car rental services to contact her. “We offer daily and monthly car rentals for both institutions and individuals, along with special discounts for UNAIR academic community members,” she concluded.
