UNAIR NEWS – Lecturers or staffs often feel stressed at work if they do not do refreshing activity. There are many ways of doing it and one of them is by doing your free time hobbies.
FST Lecturers and staffs understand well about it. Consequently, they agreed to build sports communities such as futsal, badminton, table tennis, and so on. The longest community is badminton community. It was formed in 1995 and restarted in 2000 after five years with no activity. It is still doing their routine activity.
“It did not start as a community. Only fun activity with some friends but then, the enthusiasts keep coming. Finally we gathered consistently and played badminton,” said Prof. Win Darmanto, Ph.D, Dean of FST.
As of now, the community members are 40 people. But not all members present during practice on Tuesday and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. It is caused by the lecturing schedules.
“If there is no schedule to teach or meeting, I always join the practice. One hour is usually enough for me,” added the Biology lecturer.
The community lead by Dr. Mulyadi Tanjung, M.S sometimes visit other badminton community in other faculties, and even from different campus. It is like an exhibition badminton match.
The matches have held before are against PT. Pertamina Cepu, Faculty of MIPA UNEJ, UB, and UGM. In addition, FST badminton community was also visited twice by Universiti Malaya, Malaysia in 2012 and 2013. (*)
