Fun bike with Governor and UNAIR alums, celebrating World Heart Day

UNAIR NEWS – In commemorating World Heart Day and the Golden Anniversary of the Alumni Association (IKA) of Universitas Airlangga, the Faculty of Medicine (FK), and East Java Governor, Khofifah Indar Parawansa held a fun bike and gymnastics together with cardiologists and local communities on Sunday, September 25, 2022.

The enthusiasm was seen from the participants who crowded the spot before the event started. No less than 600 people took part in heart exercises. East Java Governor, Khofifah Indar Parawansa then started an-8 km ride with 1,600 cyclists from the Grahadi State Building, Surabaya, at 06.19 AM.

The event was well-planned since the previous year World Heart Day, when the Yayasan Jantung conducted an audience with the East Java Governor to hold fun bike activities, heart exercises, and heart medical check-ups for the community.

“This precious moment marks the golden 50th UNAIR Alumni Association anniversary. We synergize to make significant progress, Insya Allah [God’s willing]. Particularly for the health of the heart,” said Khofifah, the Chairman of IKA UNAIR.

Khofifah also read stories to children with congenital heart disease to support them.

Prof Dr. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, DEA, DVM, the Vice-Rector for Academic, Student, and Alumni Affairs, appreciated UNAIR FK and other alums from various regions for participating in the event.

“Thank you so much, especially for the alumni from various regions, such as Lamongan, Malaysia, and the US. Hopefully, what we do this morning will guarantee our health, to be a healthier East Java community and recover faster,” he said.

Some medical services were available in Grahadi Hall Surabaya. dr. Agus Subagjo SpJP, UNAIR FK lecturer and the Chairman of the World Heart Day event, provides health education classes, including the introduction of basic life support techniques for cardiac and vascular emergencies, and free medical services, such as blood pressure checks, consultation on heart and blood vessel health, and 500 packs of free laboratory test. A lot of prizes were also available for the participants.
