Holding International Conference, UNAIR Invites Environment Experts

UNAIR NEWS – International activities in education continuously encouraged by Universitas Airlangga. One of them is through International Conference Research Collaboration Seminar of The University of Kitakyushu in Indonesia on Monday, March 12The international conference in collaboration with Kitakyushu University, Japan, was focused on accommodating the ideas on “Improvement of City Environmental Quality  .

UNAIR through its Environmental Science and Technology (ITL) study program (Prodi, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) has long established such cooperation. Previously, the cooperation was conducted through student exchange program to Kitakyushu University and guest lecture at FST.

The international conference was opened with remarks from the Head of the Organizer from Indonesia, Dr. Sucipto Hariyanto and Prof. Toru Matsumoto from Japan. Next speech was delivered by Prof. Win Darmanto as the dean of FST.

The speakers at the conference were foreign environment such as Prof. A.C. (Thanos) Bourtsalas from Columbia University, United State of America (USA); Assoc. Prof. Norlidah Alias ​​from University of Malaya, Malaysia; I.D.A.A. Warmadewanti, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. from the Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS); and Prof. Toru Matsumoto from Kitakyushu University, Japan; and Dr. Sucipto Hariyanto from Universitas Airlangga.

“Europe, as the most advanced continent with the highest per capita income rate has left unsanitary landfill and open damping in the waste management system. This is in contrast to the three countries that have a low rate of per capita income, “Prof. Bourtsalas said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Toru spoke about recycling technology in his country, Japan. Many of the technologies, he continued, were developed in the Kitakyushu region.

“Recycling resources is realized in eco-car or hybrid car ,” Prof. Toru said.

On the other hand, the conference at the Kahuripan Hall Room 300, UNAIR Management Building, was attended by 200 people. They were participants, presenters, and students, both from within and outside the country.

In addition to strengthening international cooperation, especially between UNAIR and Kitakyushu University, the conference was expected to encourage the climate of innovation in Indonesia especially in the environmental field.

“We also hope this brings forth international research collaborations between universities. Furthermore, solutive ideas are expected for the problems in each country, “said Prof. Win. (*)
