UNAIR NEWS – Two students of Islamic Economics Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) won third place in a national competition, Sharia Innovation Paper Competition (SHIFT) 2018. They are Fatoni Mahendra Kurniawan (2014) and Nur Sa’diyah (2014) 2015).

The SHIFT competition takes place at Semarang State University (UNNES) from 20-22 July 2018. To win it, Fatoni and Nur Sa’diyah managed to defeat delegations from five renowned universities, such as UNNES, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS), Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Padjadjaran University (UNPAD), and Diponegoro University (UNDIP).

During his study at the Islamic Economics course, Fatoni has a myriad of works and achievements. One of them is the third winner in the KASEIVENT national competition at University of Riau in 2017 and the third winner of the OCEAN (Olympiad of Economic and Annual Lecture) held at Sebelas Maret University, last May.

” Alhamdulillah . I often compete in scientific writing event, get the mandate to become a mentor in Islamic Scientific Writing (KTI) program, “said Fatoni.

Fatoni said that there were five stages of selection he had to go through in the SHIFT competition. First, participants submit the complete papers. Second, there is assessment and selection of papers from the SHIFT committee. Third, the announcement of 10 best papers. Fourth, the presentation of the paper and the final one is the announcement of the champions.

“Each delegation has its own concept in presenting his work. A week before leaving, our team held a meeting to discuss the concepts to be used later. And finally, pray to God, “said Nur Sa’diyah.

Upon this success, Fatoni hoped that the writing skills he had were able to preach Islamic Economics. In addition, he hoped to participate actively in the development of Islamic Economics in Indonesia. (*)
