UNAIR NEWS – In this digital era, various educational services inevitably has to adapt. The internet era demands institutions to innovate in giving their services to users. This is what Universitas Airlangga library continues to do.
As of July, the entire digital library collections UNAIR services can be accessed online, or commonly called e-resources . This service is a breakthrough to facilitate UNAIR’s academics in searching for references.
Last July, UNAIR library has replaced Proxy servers in e-Resources system with RemoteXs . This system change gives more benefits.
With the old server, Proxy , the library management has difficulty to get the users statistics. RemoteXs also has more features and is able to measure the level of access from available e – Resources .
Ika Budianto as the coordinator of UNAIR library IT team said that the new server is able to know the activity of each faculty. In addition to activeness, the server can also see in details who are accessing and downloading the e- Resources .
Regarding the settings, RemoteXs is able to assist the academics founding difficulty accessing e – Resources as they experienced before with the Proxy server. Not all the academic community members in UNAIR are technology literate so some still need assistance.
“The differences are found in their settings. Proxy setting requires a different browser while for RemoteXs , users simply register and approved by the administrator they then are able to access the services without having to manage further settings, just directly access unair.remotexs.co, ” she added.
“Constraints continue to be identified such as when wrongly input UNAIR e-mail address, it will be rejected and not recognized. The problem can be resolved face to face, ” she added.
Ika encouraged users to follow the flow of service in accordance with the new Access e – Resources , utilizing the available e – Resources optimally in a reasonable manner, so the migration of this facility becomes useful. Another benefit, this migration is able to increase the actuality of publications. In addition, she also hoped that the new service could be branding method of UNAIR to the wider community.

Ika also said that this e-Resources Access is given to all undergraduate, master and doctoral students. However, so far, the number of students who have registered is still limited to S2 and S3 students.
“S1(Bachelor’s degree) students sometimes still search from Google whose scientific level cannot be deemed accountable,” she said.
E- Resources can now be accessed anywhere and anytime through https://unair.remotexs.co/user/register, without having to come to UNAIR library directly. (*)
