UNAIR NEWS – Supreme Court Judge Dr. H. Sunarto, SH., M.Hum., a graduate of Universitas Airlangga in 1984 has officially elected Vice Chairman of the Supreme Court (MA) Non-Judicial Division. The man born in Sumenep, 11 April 1959 was elected as non-judicial Vice Chairman MA after bested Dr. H. Andi Samsan Nganro, SH., M.Hum., in the second round of voting process held on the 14th floor of Kusuma Atmaja Room, Supreme Court Building, Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 26.

Earlier in the first round there were nine candidates. In the first round Sunarto got 13 votes, Andi Samsan Nganro 9 votes, Takdir Rahmadi 8 votes, Supandi 6 votes, Suhadi 4 votes, and Zahrul Rabain 3 votes. Three other candidates namely Hary Djatmiko, Soltoni Mohdally, and Julius each get a vote.

Then the results of the second round, Sunarto won 24 votes, while Andi won only 21 votes. This means Sunarto is superior to his opponent while one vote is considered legitimate for abstaining.

“Based on the votes, Supreme Court Judge Dr. H. Sunarto, SH., M.Hum., got 24 votes, while Dr. H. Andi Samsan Nganro, SH., M.Hum., got 21 votes. One vote is declared invalid. Therefore, Dr. H. Sunarto was declared the vice-chairman of the supreme court for non-judicial courts. Furthermore, the decree will be forwarded to the president, “said the Chairman of the Supreme Court Hatta Ali.

Regarding his career, law graduates focusing on civil law became a candidate for a judge in the District Court (PN) Surabaya in 1986 or two years after his graduation. Then his service as a judge began in 1987 in PN Merauke. Sunarto served there until 1992.

Sunarto was first appointed as High Court judge in 2005 with an assignment at Gorontalo High Court. But not even two years on duty, he was drawn to Jakarta to be in the Supervisory Board of the Supreme Court. There Sunarto served for about three years.

In 2009, Sunarto was given the mandate to become Regional Inspector III and inaugurated as Regional Inspector II a year later until 2013. At the end of September 2013, by the Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Hatta Ali, Sunarto was inaugurated to be the most responsible person overseeing the conduct of judges.
