Kapolri Expects Public to Remain Vigilant Against Terrorism

UNAIR NEWS – The rapid growth of information technology has triggered crimes online. We should be vigilant for the terrorism.

The statement was made by the Chief of Police of Republic Indonesia General Police Tito Karnavian in the event “The 3rd ICoCSPA (International Conference on Contemporary Social and Political Science Affair)” on Thursday, Spetember 7, at Hotel Garden Palace Surabaya.

The ICoCSPA event is an annual activity of social and political experts to discuss socio-political phenomena within the framework of scholarship from all over the world. In the presence of ICoCSPA participants, Tito explained that there are a lot of scattered messages online, mainly about radicalism.

“In addition, cyberspace is also used as a space for terrorists to convert ordinary people to become members of terrorist groups,” explained Tito.

The graduate of a campus in Singapore emphasized, terrorism network in all parts of the world can be matched by strong community unity including academics in overcoming the idea of ​​terrorism.

“My main point is that we must be united to form global security to match the network of crime and terrorism. We must strengthen collaboration both at national level to the local. Academics can also recommend policies based on research and theories. We (the government) are very open with the inputs, ” said Tito.

The 2017 ICoCSPA event comprises of international seminars and research presentations. Besides General Tito, there was the Governor of the National Defense Agency Agus Wijoyo, Prof. Hisae Nakanishi, Ph.D (Doshisha University, Japan), Prof. Dr. Peter Grabosky (Australian National University), Dr. Robbie Pieters (University of Sydney Australia), and Baiq Wardhani, Ph.D (Universitas Airlangga).

In the presentation sessions, the researchers will present more than 51 research paper papers from national and international academics. Abstracts of selected papers will be published by Atlantis publisher indexed by ISI.

Subthemes of papers include “Human Security and Political Violence”, “Border Management and Governance”, “Food Security and Decentralization”, “Sustainable Development, Policy and Civic Engagement”, and “Digital Society, Cyber ​​Crime and National Security”.
