UNAIR NEWS – Thursday, December 15, East Java Governor Dr. H. Soekarwo, SH., M.Hum known better as Pakde Karwo visited PDD Universitas Airlangga campus in Banyuwangi.

“I came here to check the students’ and all elements of PDD Universitas Airlangga development which has just been three years old since establishment. While I am here, I dropped by,” said Pakde Karwo.

Pakde then told the story of his past when he was a student, he wore UNAIR alma mater jacket anywhere. “Let my neighbors knew that I was a student. And when I was graduated in 1970, the jacket is kept well until know,” he said.

The visit of East Java Governor was formed in a public lecture themed “East Java Development Aim with Competitiveness Reinforcement for Global Economy”. It was attended by about 620 students from 10 different provinces, Banyuwangi Regent and staff, all academicians and lecturers of PDD UNAIR Banyuwangi, representative of lecturers and staff of UNAIR Surabaya and public figures.

Before starting his lecture, the visiting group was welcomed by “Tari Gandrung” and traditional music of Banyuwangi. Then it was followed with the lecture from the alumni of Faculty of Law UNAIR.

”It is a great honor for us, the big family of PDD UNAIR in Banyuwangi, as the Governor’s willing to visit. He dropped by to share knowledge and give a public lecture during his busy schedule,” A. A. Gde Satia Utama, Coordinating Secretary PDD UNAIR Banyuwangi.

According to Hendri Arya Fernando, the Head of student family of PDD UNAIR Banyuwangi, the public lecture of East Java Governor became great spirit booster especially when he is UNAIR alumnus as well. He hoped that there will be more visits made in the future.

Erdiya Vega Restiyatingrum, a student of Accounting 2015, added that she and her friends felt great as they could meet and got a lecture directly from East Java Governor.

“I never believe this is happening. We hoped that Pakde Karwo can be a role model for my friends and me so we can retain alma mater reputation and will never forget it forever,” said Erdiya. (*)
