The Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga, has just been ordained as Indonesia’s best Faculty of Law in the SCImago Institution Rankings (SIR) 2023 and the QS World University Ranking 2023. From this ranking, FH UNAIR continues to develop the quality of its education through collaboration with several other universities in the international realm. , one of them from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich, Germany.
Several lecturers from the University of the Bundeswehr Munich conducted a guest lecture at FH UNAIR, which aims to provide knowledge about legal education carried out in Germany and Indonesia to determine the differences and similarities between the education systems in Germany and also in Indonesia. Wednesday (5/4/2023) FH UNAIR held a discussion with Prof. Stefan Koos and Sebastian Leander Wachsmann who conveyed about student study programs in Germany.
This activity is open to all UNAIR FH students because it targets UNAIR FH students who later want to participate in subject exchanges, especially in Germany. Prof. Stefan Koos and Sebastian Leander Wachsmann conveyed that the study system in Germany is divided into two levels, namely the professional level and also the ordinary study level. This professional level is carried out with a length of study of 7 years, while at the usual level of study, it usually is 4-5 years. Regarding professional studies, this is specifically for students who are later interested in going directly into legal practice, such as becoming a lawyer, therefore having a long study time.
Germany is a legal country that adheres to Civil Law but also studies European Law, which regarding the curriculum system in Germany, is adjusted to each student’s interests, such as specialization in business law, criminal law, and others, as in FH UNAIR. Several universities in Germany have a student loan system through collaboration with several banks, which is intended to help students meet their educational needs, such as paying tuition fees, buying books, etc.
This discussion also provided information about opportunities for UNAIR FH students who wish to continue their studies in Germany. It has also been noted that several UNAIR FH students are carrying out student exchange there.
