Prof. Sunarto Reksoprawiro Donates Books on behalf of Parents

NEWS UNAIR – Sharing knowledge and books is a way by Prof. Sunarto Reksoprawiro, dr., FINACS., in retaining his teachings to his students. Professor of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga, Neck and Head Surgery Division Dr. Soetomo-FK UNAIR distributed hundreds of guidebooks for diagnosis of head neck surgery cases to dozens of students. He has done it in the last few months.

Entitled Head and Neck Surgery Physical  Diagnostics, the 94-page book contains pictures of head and neck surgery various clinical diagnoses including for the apparent abnormality.

In the book, there are dozens of common cases of head neck surgery that are often handled in RSUD Dr. Soetomo. For example, thyroid disease, facial and renal injuries, congenital abnormalities in children, infections, and neoplasms.

Clinical diagnosis is one of the most important parts in the treatment. Incorrect diagnosis affects the therapeutic process and its treatment. That’s why Sunarto considers it is important that the prospective doctors must learn to master the way to diagnose correctly. One of them is by studying the physical condition of disorder experienced by the patient.

“Establishing a final diagnosis of a disease generally begins by determining its clinical diagnosis. If you only rely on the results of the investigation without knowing the correct clinical diagnosis, this will affect the stage of therapy, ” he said.

In the book, pictures of Dr. Soetomo are clearly presented with his explanation. So, students can learn to diagnose.

“One of the competencies that a general practitioner must have is the ability to diagnose. if the step is right, the referring process to a specialist will also be appropriate because it is based to the disease, ” he said.

Some of the head and neck surgery cases are generally located in certain locations. Knowing the location and consistency of the lumps through the examination makes clinical diagnosis easy.

The man from Bojonegoro revealed, among the number of head neck surgery cases in RSUD Dr. Soetomo, the most common is from thyroid disease, then the second is fracture cases on face and back, the third is congenital abnormalities, infections, to oral cancer cavity.

The full color printed was given to a young physicians who work in the Neck and Head Surgery Division of Dr. Soetomo Hospital-FK UNAIR. When entering the learning stage using Problem Based Learning (PBL) method, in groups, students discuss one case given by the lecturer.

“In the head and neck surgery division, there are many cases to be studied. Therefore, I give them this book as the guidebook for both who are still in education and internship so that it can be a reference for those who have been graduated, ” he explained.

Interestingly, the book is not just a memento for his students. Sunarto intends to share the book to make his parents happy. “Hopefully these books become a charity from my parents,” said the travelling hobbyist .

He hoped that the book would make it easier for medical students and surgeon specialists especially in learning to make a clinical diagnosis of neck and head disorder patients correctly and accurately.

“Hopefully the students’ motivation to study continues to increase. Because, fear of loosing their knowledge will be reduced. With this book, they can read again so they can retain their knowledge better, “he concluded.
