Met in his office on Monday, January 8, the dean who is known better as Prof. Win said that being a dean was not his dream. He focused only in the field of research.

“It flowed like water,” he said. “The encouragement and support from the surrounding actually made me elected dean until 2020,” he added.

Regarding the mandate of being the dean, Prof. Win has a myriad of strategies, primarily in developing a conducive research climate. The Department of Biology lecturer has committed that at the beginning of his term, he intended to bring his faculty leading in research and collaboration with foreign institutions.

“We keep trying to create vibrant research climate in FST UNAIR,” said Prof. Win passionately.

“We always strive for adequate research support. All have started well and on progress, “he explained.

The determination to develop research support facilities is considered very important because, for Prof. Win, if the laboratory facilities are available, indirectly the entire academic community FST UNAIR can advance to boost quality and research quantity in the future.

Achieving Target

Being part of UNAIR, FST UNAIR also takes part in supporting UNAIR towards Top 500 World, one of them is with the achievement on research. For that, Prof. Win showed various results of research that has been done. In 2016 and 2017, the targets for scopus-indexed journals can be achieved even exceeded.

“We have achieved almost 3 times the target of the journal in 2017. And by 2018 we can target 450 Scopus indexed journal,” he added.

Furthermore, asked about his view for students nowadays, Prof. Win said that there is a decrease in productivity by students. This is suspected to be the impact of social media.

“The time is used more to use mobile phones than to learn. Sometimes I think what if we learn through the mobile phones, “he explained.

In the end of the interview, Prof. Win hoped that in the future the drive to improve productivity from FST UNAIR is even higher, in the areas of research, teaching, and collaboration.

“This nation needs both applied and basic technology as the foundation of the nation. The developed nation is a nation with more engineers and scientists with excellent quality, “he said. “But all the work must be from sincerity,” said the Dean who manages 11 programs.
