UNAIR NEWS – Four teams of Reasoning club delegation won four best speaker nominations in ICOSDEL MALINDO 2018 (International Conference on Student Development and Leadership Malaysia-Indonesia) mid July, July 16. It is a collaboration of Indonesia and Malaysia, especially between Universitas Airlangga and UiTM (MARA Universiti Teknologi).
Farid, the head of Reasoning club or Student Activity Unit (UKM), explained that the participation of Reasoning club was from invitation by the Directorate of Student Affairs UNAIR, as a delegation of participants in the International Conference with UNAIR BEM and UNAIR Ambassadors.
“We sent eleven delegation teams with their research papers. Of course before that, Reasoning club had given some assistance, “said Farid.
The preparation was held for about three weeks involving alumni. From the initial process, choosing title, to presentation practice. After the preparation and guidance from the alumni, four delegation teams headed by Shulkhiatus S; M. Wahyu Shafi’ul; Hilmi Putra Pradana; and Rizma Nur Hidayah get best speaker nominations.
Rizma, one of the team leaders, admitted that it was her first international conference. However, she made a good preparation. Rizma read the paper 2-3 times to understand better and practice presentations with Reasoning club.
Her habit of presenting in front of people eases her nervousness even though she was the first presenting. There is a bit of nervousness.
“I was not nervous and tried to calm down. However, when I knew I had the first opportunity to present, there is a sense of nervousness. Moreover, the pointer was also error, I was a little scared. I took a deep breath to get rid of it all and believe that I certainly can do it, ” she said.
From the experience, Rizma admitted that she needed to improve her public speaking skill so that the explanation will be more organized with less mistakes during presentation. The delegates also felt glad that they can meet Malaysian students.
Delegates can learn a lot from them including about their culture. It turns out that their habits and ways of dressing are a little different from them.
The delegation of reasoning meetings with UiTM delegates from Malaysia is expected to improve each other’s capabilities, from the experience as well as to be the next evaluation material.
Experience and achievement of Reasoning club as best speakers is also expected to inspire UNAIR students to make more achievements, both in national and international arena. It is also to support UNAIR to achieve Top 500 best universities of the world. (*)
