Rector Encourages Postgraduate Students to Have Excellence with Morality

UNAIR NEWS – 764 new postgraduate students of Universitas Airlangga were inaugurated by the Rector of Universitas Airlangga, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, SE., MT., Ak, CMA., at Garuda Mukti Hall Campus C on Thursday, February 1. They consisted of 517 master’s, 39 doctoral, 15 professional, 178 specialist, and 15 subspecialist program students from all faculties.

In the event, Prof. Nasih reminded all the students that it was time for them to be responsible for their education. Postgraduate dgeree, he added, is the stage of scientific development for the benefit of human beings, not just college.

“After this, you can immediately search UNAIR experts that match your scientific interest. Use your time as well as possible. I’m sure you can. Because, being in UNAIR is not easy. Be sure to complete your study, “he said.

Professor of Faculty of Economics and Business also appealed to all new students to make “Excellence with Morality” as their principle or guidance in developing science. In various fields, students are asked to do the best by referring to moral values.

“Being part of UNAIR, you are required to be the best based on moral values. Excellence alone is not enough. Excellence is useless without morality . And, morality cannot achieve the best result without the values of excellence,” he explained.

Marking the postgraduate students inauguration of academic year 2017/2018, Agus Sutiyono and Putri Selfi Widya Ratna as the representatives of students led the students taking their oath to alma mater. Then they wore alma mater jacket followed by other new students.

“Witnessed by professors, deans and vice deans, and leaders of UNAIR, that oath has been made. Use it as motivation to develop science for wider usage, “he said.

Prevent the Seeds of Dishonesty

Although the target of world class university (WCU) requires postgraduate students to have publications on Scopus indexed  international proceedings, Prof. NAsih added that plagiarism should be a matter of concern. To the new students, he expected them honest in his education.

“At least do not cheat during exams as dishonesty in education becomes the seeds of dishonesty in other fields. Therefore, UNAIR continues to strive to create a healthy academic climate. Student courses that have been taken can be removed if they are proven to have done the act of plagiarism, “he said.

“Once again, I congratulate you all. Study well. Be a student with excellence based on good morality . And, helped UNAIR to become the world’s best universities, “said Prof. Nasih. (*)
