UNAIR NEWS – Alumni Association (IKA) Family of Universitas Airlangga successfully held an iftar gathering event at the residence of General Chairman of IKA UA Drs. Ec. Haryanto Basoeni, in Ketintang Baru area of Surabaya, Sunday, May 27.
On that occasion, there were hundreds of UNAIR alumni. There were Rector of UNAIR Prof. Dr. Moh Nasih, SE., MT., Ak., CMA., an FEB alumnus, Drs. Koko Srimulyo, M.Si alumnus of FISIP, Prof. Fasich, former Rector who is also alumnus of Faculty of Pharmacy UNAIR. There was also Ustadz Ir.H. Misbahul Huda, MBA who gave sermon.
In an atmosphere of intimacy and kinship, the Rector of UNAIR Prof. Moh Nasih said that if all Muslims implement sharia as best as they can, the country will be able to realize the peace and prosperity.
“If all Muslims implement the pillars of Islam as well as they can, we will be able to relaize a peaceful and prosper country. Injustice will be avoided. Yes all of them, including fasting, “said Prof. Nasih.
Prof. Nasih explained that fasting is not just for our “personal” needs, but it will creates a community order that helps each other, promotes mutual care, sharing and empathy. Through fasting, there is no more individual ego.
“Egois (attitude) should be replaced with eco-is, about the needs of the community around. From ego to eco (economy), so in the society, what we do actually is to build a prosperous nation and state society in the shade of Allah SWT blessings. The orientation is there, “said the UNAIR Rector.
Thus, he continued, in fact who needs Ramadan and fasting is not just us personally. The government also needs all of it as a program to prosper the community, build a civil society, a prosperous, joyous, and just society.

Ustad Misbahul Huda in his sermon spoke about “Fasting as the Spirit of Simple Life”. Implementing the word ‘simple’ in life is not as easy as we think. Many people fail to achieve it because it is not simple. Facing the challenges of life as fast as a geometrical progression, while our competence to face challenges is as slow as the series of arithmetic.
“As a result, many people are deceived. If they are officials, many of them get lost, or slip out in life, “said Ust. Misbahul, pointing to some examples of smart people who are professors, but looked dumb for desperately defending the wrong people and also a former model professor who was dragged into a mafia.
A person may be strong physically, physically beautiful, intellectually smart, emotionally rich, and mature emotionally, but if it is not based on morality, they will have difficulties to face the challenges of life. Therefore Ustad praised the tagline of UNAIR Excellence with Morality as an extraordinary thing.
He said that being Muslims do not necessarily mean being poor. To be able to hajj they must be rich, rich and not greedy ( kebonyan ). Being poor and modest is admittedly different. Poor is a condition of life, while modest is a way of life. Therefore there are many poor people but they do not live modestly. They expect all sorts of desires. But there are also rich people who remain modest because of their vision.
“Rich in an Islamic way is like using the hands, received by hands, if they go away by hands. If you get the fortune thank you alhamdulillah, property lost goes innalillah , and the problem finishes. This is different from the materialistic person: they go through by heart, getting a fortune, they happy excessively, if they lost it they get breakdown, some even get post power syndrome , etc., “said Ust Misbahul Huda.
After having iftar together, there were prayers Isya ‘and Tarawih with members of UNAIR alumni. The tarawih prayer was led by imam of Ulul ‘Azmi Mosque, Ali Thamam. (*)
