Rector UNAIR Encourages Lecturers Not To Be Active in Teaching Only

UNAIR NEWS – As many as 16 lecturers of Universitas Airlangga from various faculties officially awarded lecturer certification on Wednesday, April 19. Lecturers’ certifications were awarded by UNAIR Rector Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nasih, in his office room, Management Office Building Campus C UNAIR.

Nasih said that the certifications awarded mark the increasing tasks and burdens of lecturers. The lecturers are expected to improve the quality of education, research and community service.

“All of you are lecturers, not only teachers. Lecturers should not only be active in teaching and classes. But, you have to dedicate yourself to research and community service. It is not only personal interest but also institutional interest,” said Nasih.

In this occasion, UNAIR Rector also advised the lecturers to uphold professional ethics in doing their jobs. The challenges are not only maintaining personal reputation but also institutional reputation.

“The professional ethics as lecturers should be taken into account. Obedience to law and morality should always be upheld,” he asserted.

UNAIR Director Human Resources Dr. Purnawan Basundoro said that the certified lecturers in 2016 were 55 lecturers. To date, all UNAIR certified lecturers are 1,387, from total 1,895 lecturers.

“As professional lecturers, they should always perform three main tasks, teaching, researching and serving the community. Most importantly, their researches should be published in reputable international journals. Hopefully, they consider themselves as professional lecturers,” stated Purnawan.

Purnawan added, all lecturers certified have undergone series of tests, such as English proficiency, academic potential test, and many others. They have taken their self potential exploration test. (*)
