Requirements for Donating Blood

UNAIR NEWS – As part of community service, BEM Faculty of Law Universitas Airlangga organizes blood donation event. It is an activity that is often held by students in faculties and departments of UNAIR.

In the blood donation event taking place at Faculty Club, Building A FH UNAIR, Tuesday, April 24, some donors could not donate their blood because they could not meet the requirements. So, what are the conditions for blood donors required before donating blood?

Some of these requirements are a minimum weight of 45 kg; hemoglobin levels of at least 12.5 g / dl and a maximum of 17.0 g / dl; not in vaccine influences; and not after having a major surgery (after 1 year) or minor surgery (after 6 months).

Often, a person has a low hemoglobin level that is prevented from doing blood donation. To increase hemoglobin levels, several things can be done. Like, eating foods rich in iron, increase intake of vitamin C, consume folic acid, and eat bits and apples.

Meanwhile, there are many benefits gained after a person does a blood donation. Blood donors can maintain heart health and make blood flow more smoothly, increase red blood cell production, prevent excessive iron, and increase antioxidant activity in the body. For donors, blood donation can be useful to support the health of the body.

In addition, blood donors can help saving the lives of patients who need their blood.

Activities held in collaboration with PMI Surabaya received positive response from the academicians of FH UNAIR. Putera as Minister of Community Empowerment BEM FH UNAIR said, blood donor activities held was not to commemorate any special event but purely as a real action of community service.

“This blood donation activity as a real form of devotion. We often hear news on Red Cross blood shortages. Therefore, this work program aims to help and always support PMI in helping people in need of blood, “he said.

In addition to blood donation, the work programs of the Ministry of Community Service BEM FH UNAIR, are Sekolah Hebat (Great School), Pengmas Berbagi (Community Service Shares), disaster relief aids, and Abdi Desa (Village Service). (*)
