UNAIR NEWS – A number of policies and work programs of four Academic Senate commission of Universitas Airlangga in 2018 were approved on Friday, February 23. Being held at Ketapang Indah Hotel, Banyuwangi, the Academic Senate Secretary, Iman Prihandono, SH., MH., LL.M., Ph.D., concluded the work meeting and finalized the results.
There was a 4.5 hour long discussion to achieve the decision making. Representing the chairman of UNAIR Academic Senate Prof. Dr. Joewono Soeroso, dr., M. Sc., Sp. PD. KR., FINASIM., Iman led the work meeting. He acknowledged that there were several revisions to the regulations and new work program proposals.
“Medical check-up for lecturers and staff was one of the proposals,” he said.
In the work meeting, each commission consisting of UNAIR experts took turns in proposing a program for a year ahead. Other commissions, as well as members of the academic senate, gave a number of responses and views.
There are four academic senate commissions at UNAIR. Commission 1 is chaired by Prof. Dr. Nursalam, M. Nurs (Hons); Commission 2 by Prof. Dr. Suwarno, drh., M.Si; Commission 3 by Prof. Dr. Widi Hidayat, M. Si., Ak .; and Commission 4 by Prof. Dr. Sri Subekti, DEA., Drh.
Commission 1 has tasks related to academic and student affairs. Commission 2 is on resources and infrastructures. Commission 3 is about institutional, planning, and supervision. The commission 4 is for the field of research, community service, cooperation, and alumni.

Providing a draft proposal, Dean of Faculty of Dental Medicine Dr. R. Darmawan, drg., M. Kes., acknowledged that there are some fundamental issues that have not been come to an agreement among academic community such as on the definition and definition of UNAIR jargon, “Excellence with Morality”.
“During AUN accreditation (Airlangga University Network, ed) yesterday, the definition of Excellence with Morality was also questioned,” sebutnya. “It is also different among the academicians. What is Excellence with Morality?”Added the member of Commission 2 of Academic Senate UNAIR.
In addition, the challenges faced by the Z generation, a generation born from 1995 to mid-2000s, was one of the topics discussed. It was related to the policy in facing the challenges of digitalization era, on the quality of students and methods of education.
“The current students often found lazy to read. They tend to memorize their presentation without reading the references, both books and journals, ” said Prof. Ramlan Surbakti, Drs., MA., Ph.D.
With these proposals, discussions and considerations, the work meeting resulted 2 policies and 1 decision and 22 programs approved by the forum. “Alhamdulillah, hopefully in the future the various targets and work programs that have been planned can be achieved without many obstacles,” said Prof. Yuwono while closing the work meeting. (*)
