Six Scholarship Recipients from FEB Join Leadership Training in Semarang

UNAIR NEWS – Learning is not only done in the classroom. Sometimes, learning is done directly in the field by solving various problems.

This is what the delegation of Universitas Airlangga experienced in the activity entitled ‘2018 PGN Leadership Camp ‘ which was organized by Karya Salemba Empat Foundation in collaboration with PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN). In this leadership camp, there were six UNAIR students receiving Karya Salemba Empat scholarship. The six students are from Faculty of Economics and Business.

The six students were Berliana Claudia Aisyah, Elly Ermawaty, Muchammad Atho’Ur Rohman, Primasti Ayu Damayanti, Qonitah Bakhtiah, and Willy Kumalasari.

Overall, there are 59 students from all Indonesian university partners of Karya Salemba Empat and PGN. They participated in a series of activities taking place in Semarang, from 27 July to 2 August 2018.

The students learned about how to be good leaders and positive fighters. This camp prepares students to be the best leaders, both for themselves and society. Not only good leadership lessons, the knowledge and practice about good communication and how to be ambassadors with excellent ethics were also given during activities.

There is a mission that must be carried out by camp participants during the activity. The mission is to seek funding for the renovation of an elementary school in Semarang.

“So we were all sent down in Semarang without money, without communication tools, without capital, only id-cards. There we have to find funds in a right way, to renovate one of the elementary schools in East Semarang. Thank God we were able to collect about 18 million,” recalled Willy Kumalasari, participant of the 2018 PGN Leadership Camp.

In that mission, they did various ways to earn money such as being a street performer, being a laundryman in a shop, selling water, and selling snacks.

Students who have won the First Place in the FIFGROUP Business Idea Competition admitted that they were grateful to be part of the camp activities and trusted as recipients of the Karya Salemba Empat scholarship.

“From the activity I was able to build a network, especially with students from universities throughout Indonesia. I learned a lot about how to be a good leader, ” she added.

Karya Salemba Empat is an intermediary for donating companies that distribute scholarship funds to students. Some donor companies include PT. Indofood, BPJS Employment, BNI Syariah, and PGN.

Karya Salemba Empat Foundation and scholarship donors are not only responsible for providing scholarship funds, but also develop the abilities and skills of recipient students. This is the background of this activity.

In addition, it also prepares students to enter professional world and hone leadership skill. (*)
