UNAIR NEWS – People living with HIV ( Human Immunodeficiency Virus ) -AIDS ( Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome ) (ODHA) should not be discriminated. We should stay away from the illness. That was stated by the Director of Universitas Airlangga Hospital (RSUA) Prof. Dr. Nasronuddin, dr., Sp.PD., KPTI-FINASIM., when opening HIV-AIDS seminar on Tuesday, December 5 in Dharmawangsa Hall.

In a seminar held by students of Faculty of Nursing UNAIR class of 2015, Prof. Nasronudin hoped that people will be more concerned with people living with HIV-AIDS (ODHA). One of them is by living with them normally. In addition, ODHA must be optimistic and always foster hope by boosting immunity.

“One way can be done through this kind of performance. Singing and dancing. It’s healthy, ” he said. “Scientifically, every pleasure will be accepted by the brain in the medical system. This system reaches the midbrain. There, there is a group of cells called PVN ( Paraventricular nucleus )that brings happy message to the front of the brain. There, there is a group of cells called POMC ( Proopiomelanocortin ). At that point, ACTH hormone ( adrenocorticotropic  hormone) is released, “said Prof. Nasron.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasronudin also said that despite the disease, people living with HIV AIDS must remain confident in looking forward to the future including at work. Because, according to him, work is very important because it can distract them from the past.

“This is in line with the theme of International AIDS Day ‘I’m Brave, I’m Healthy’. ODHA should brave to check themselves, brave to state and show themselves. Their spouses or environments must also brave to live side by side with them. And, the public should be brave in supporting and backing up such activities (related to ODHA, eed), ” he said.

In the meantime, Dr. Tri Pudy Asmaraswati, Sp. Pd., as the speaker in the seminar said that Indonesia is facing epidemics, HIV is concentrated in most provinces, even Papua and West Papua are facing HIV in the general population. Based on data of HIV / AIDS Progress Report Quarter I (up to March) 2016 Ministry of Health, HIV sufferers reached 1,146 people and AIDS 305 people.

“HIV is treated through antiretroviral therapy for six months per year. The target, 90 percent of those receiving ARVs experience suppression, ” she said.

On the other hand, the head of the Seminar committee on HIV-AIDS Arman Rosyadio Firmansyah stated that the activity is a form of cooperation between FKp UNAIR student of class of 2015 and RSUA. Besides students, the seminar was attended by a number of Couple Community members, one of the women’s community with HIV sufferers in Surabaya, established in 2011, and also attended by general public. (*)
