UNAIR NEWS – The presence of PSDKU (Off Main Campus Study Program) Universitas Airlangga in Banyuwangi has reached its third year. There are about 700 students studying there. There are four study programs, Public Health, Accounting, Veterinary Medicine, and Aquaculture.
Interviewed by UNAIR NEWS, the Head of Banyuwangi Regency Education Office Drs. Sulihtiyono, M.M., M.Pd., stated that the program is adjusted to the condition of Banyuwangi. The cooperation is aimed to support the preparation and improvement of human resources (HR) in Banyuwangi, especially in supporting the vision towards an independent society, better prosperity, and noble character.
“We, in BAPPEDA, in research activities also involve universities, especially UNAIR, as an effort to overcome the problems that arise, “he said. “Therefore, Banyuwangi with its largest land and livestock in East Java needs to be supported by skilled resources in that field. So, veterinary medicine is perfect, ” he added.
Sulihtiyono revealed that the existence of UNAIR at least can improve human resources quality acceleration in Banyuwangi. In addition, it is also expected to be the embryo of Banyuwangi university.
“Some health programs are also often held,” he said. “Deployment of medical personnel to Tlatah Blambangan (Banyuwangi),” he added.
Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas conveyed the same thing. According to him, the target of Banyuwangi community prosperity should be supported by qualified human resources.
“Therefore, the acceleration program continues to be done in Banyuwangi regency. One of them is through this cooperation with UNAIR, “he said. “And, the synergy between the two (Banyuwangi and UNAIR, ed) will continue to be encouraged and improved,” he added in his speech at Pendopo Kabupaten Banyuwangi, Friday, February 23.
On the same occasion, Azwar revealed that Banyuwangi Government has a problem on minimal number of medical specialists. Therefore, referring to the previous MoU, he reminded the plan of a medical school establishment in 2020.
“There will be three more study programs, Chemistry, Biology, and Vocational Radiology. It will become the base for the preparation of Medical faculty in Banyuwangi,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Academic Senate Prof. Dr. Joewono Soeroso, dr., M. Sc., Sp. PD. K-R., FINASIM in his speech stated that the Banyuwangi regency is really serious in supporting education. Evidently, the provision of infrastructure and facilities of PSDKU UNAIR in Banyuwangi is improved gradually. The collaboration, he continued, will be continued and improved.
“May this collaboration create a mutualism symbiotic relationship which is advantageous for both Universitas Airlangga and Banyuwangi regency, “he said. (*)
