UKM Bridge Wins Five Trophies in Batam

UNAIR NEWS – Delegation of Student Activity Unit of Bridge Universitas Airlangga  once again added their championship trophy collection. In National Bridge Student & College Student Bridge event and 15 th Batam International Bridge Open on Tuesday-Monday, July 10-16, UNAIR Bridge team succeeded in bringing in five trophies.

This time the Bridge club sent seven delegates, Kwan Darren, Jamaluddin Ghani, Gilberto Timoty, Siffyan Assauri, Restu Narendra, Reza Ramadhan, and Stefans Endras.

The trophies were for Third Place College Student Team, First Place College Student Pair in National Championship 2018, Second Place in the Youth Junior Pair Junior Bridge National Championship 2018; Fifth Place of Final Team 15th Batam International Bridge Open Tournament; and Second Place Local Junior Team 15th Batam International Bridge Open Tournament.

The championship tournament initiated by Bridge Association of Indonesia (GABSI) Riau (Riau Islands), BP Batam and Riau Islands Provincial Tourism Office, and supported by Ministry of Tourism (Kemenpar). The international tournament was followed by 13 countries, Singapore, Malaysia, India, UK, New Zealand, Australia, China, France, Japan, Bangladesh, Kenya, South Africa, and Indonesia. The championship is also one of the largest bridge championships in Southeast Asia held annually.

“We practice every day, either regular practice in the student center or through the application of BBO (Bridge Base Online). In addition, we follow the mini circuit with other universities. It is usually held around Surabaya, “said Novia Devvy, Sociology student, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Class 2016.

Novia added, the key to this success was teamwork, from the strategy in mastering the game. She also hoped Bridge Club UNAIR to continue to make achievements.

“Know your opponent. If it is challenging, we play our experienced team, ” she said.

“The achievement of UNAIR Bridge club can gain good reputation for UNAIR in the national and international arena,” added Novia. (*)
