UNAIR NEWS – Student Activity Unit of Pencak Silat Setia Hati Terate (UKM PSHT) Universitas Airlangga is organizing Pencak Silat championship “Airlangga Cup V”. The championship is held at Basketball Stadium Campus C UNAIR on July 23 to 29, 2017.
Head of UKM PSHT Teguh Satrio said that Airlangga Cup V is a mean to gather among PSHT athletes as well as to look for excellent pencak silat fighters from all age groups.
“This is a routine program and a celebration towards a century of SH Terate in 2022 and UNAIR Dies Natalis,” said Teguh.
The Airlangga Cup V Championship themed “Creating Loyal Generation of Setia Hati Terate for the Highest Achievement” consists of two numbers in Tanding class and Single Double Team Art. Both can be followed by all participants in early age of 9-12 category years, pre adolescents 12-14 years, adolescents 14-17 years, and adults 17-35 years old.
Airlangga Cup V Championship which is held routinely every other year has always invited a lot of participants from all regions in Indonesia. The participants competing for the trophy are from Sorong, Palu, Balikpapan, Jambi, and Makassar.
“There are currently 400 participants. The number is estimated to grow until the closing date of registration on July 20, 2017, “said Teguh.
From the assessment aspect, the referee of Indonesian Pencak Silat Association will use digital scoring board . This system is commonly used at national and international pencak silat matches such as PON to Southeast Asia Games.
The plan is that the Rector of UNAIR and the Governor of East Java will attend to open Airlangga Cup V competition. In addition, Head of SH Terate of Indonesia, Head National National Sports Committee of East Java and Head of Pencak Silat Association East Java will also attend.
Target gold medals
Airlangga Cup V is also participated by professional martial arts athletes. Most of the professional athletes are participating in Airlangga Cup V. They are participants in the teen category.
According to Teguh, the event of Airlangga Cup V is a simulation game for the athletes who will compete in the Regional Student Games Week. “So this event becomes a tryout for athletes of Regional Training Center who will compete for Governor Cup,” said 2014 student of Faculty of Vocational Studies.
UKM PSHT also sends 30 athletes to compete for the Rector’s trophy. They have target to win four gold medals and become the grand champion of Airlangga Cup V.
In Airlangga Cup IV in 2015, the team of UKM PSHT also won the grand champion and take the Rector’s trophy.
