UNAIR NEWS – Basketball Student Activity Unit (UKM) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another achievement. This time they were Runner Up at Pertalite Cup 2016 Surabaya Series. The competition was held on September 15-18, 2016 in Kertajaya Sports Center, Surabaya.

All universities in Surabaya took parts in the tournament. Male basketball UNAIR sent two teams. Most of the players were freshmen who just joined the Basketball UKM.

“We gave freshmen more opportunity to play in the tournament. We want them to gain more experience and playtime to our juniors,” said Rizvanda, Head of Basketball UKM UNAIR.

Rizvanda said that the preparation for the tournament was held for two weeks. But physically and mentally, the teams of Basketball UNAIR were ready for the competition. Unfortunately, UNAIR B team failed when they played in a quarter final round against Universitas Pelita Harapan (UPH) with tight scores, 63 – 64.

“The other team lost in the quarter finals. But Team A can continue until the final round against Universitas Surabaya (UBAYA),” added Rizvanda.

In the final, against UBAYA, UNAIR A team has scored 44 points. Even though they were only in the second place, the players looked content and proud of the achievement. Hopefully through this achievement, they will have more motivation to struggle even harder bringing the alma mater glory either at national level or international level.

“We hope that UNAIR Basketball team does not only have domination in East Java but also at national level,” said Risvanda. (*)
