UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continuously makes a step forward towards global recognition. This time, with Petra Christian University (UKP) and Udayana University (UNUD), UNAIR organized a Joint Summer Program called SURABALI which was attended by students from various countries.
SURABALI 2018 is one of the summer programs organized by Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) this year. The event is scheduled to last for nearly two weeks, and it was started on Saturday, July 14.
There are 57 students attending SURABALI 2018. Forty-four of them are foreign students from China, India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and South Korea, while 12 of them are local students as delegates of consortium from the organizer.
This activity is a typical summer program with a credit transfer system, where students not only attend classes but also visit several places in Surabaya and Bali to introduce ecotourism and local small enterprises empowerment.
As one of the activities, on Tuesday, July 1, AGE held a Sociopreneurship class at the Hall of Prof. Miendrowo Prawirodjoemeno, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga. This activity is aimed to introduce sociopreneurship to students as well as create entrepreneurial skill which will bring benefit for themselves and the surrounding social environment. The participants followed the Sociopreneurship class which is supported by one of FEB’s lecturers with enthusiasm.
“Because this is a combined summer program, so the courses are divided in three places. In UNAIR, participants learn the basic theory of Sociopreneurship, then later we move to UKP to deepen the business of canvas model, whereas in Udayana, participants will go directly to the small enterprises sites, “explained Cicilia Deandra Mayaputri, as Administrator of International Program Development as well as Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) Program Coordinator.
Meanwhile, Farah, as an international staff of AGE development program also added that this activity has been planned and initiated by UNAIR international office since August.
“Because AGE has many summer programs, this time we want to form a joint summer program, SURABALI, which is a collaboration of three universities. After forming the consortium, we finally try to get grants of Institutional Reinforcement of International Affairs Office (PKKUI) and Alhamdulillah we have won the competition and got the fund from Kemenristekdikti, ” she explained.
Not only learning about the course, the participants also had the opportunity to learn about Indonesian culture. Participants were divided into five small groups to practice saman dance with two or three guides in each group. Loveleen, one of the participants from India admitted very happy to follow this program.
“By joining this program, I can meet a lot of new people, students from various countries. Although there are many summer programs in India, but this program is unique and very interesting. The most interesting thing for me is when we learn saman dance which is the traditional dance of Indonesia. It felt very difficult when we had to dance while singing with a difficult movement, ” she said excitedly.
After completing a series of activities at UNAIR, the participants will have activities in UKP on Wednesday, July 18 and then the activities will be continued at Udayana University until July 26.
