UNAIR NEWS –Â Iman Prihandono, Ph.D, Head of International Law Department, Faculty of Law, Universitas Airlangga was invited as a speaker in Legal Preventive Program (LPP). It was held by Pertamina Refinery Unit VII Kasim in Sorong, West Papua, on Tuesday, October 18.
In the occasion, Iman presented ‘Business Audit in Oil and Gas Downstream Industry in Legal Prespective’ to 35 participants. They were employees from general manager to field supervisors of Pertamina Refinery Unit VII Kasim, Sorong, West Papua.
General Manager  of Pertamina RU VII Kasim, I Gusti Bagus Prihanta stated that this legal preventive program is organized twice in a year. The program is expected to improve Pertamina on legal conformity during its operation.
The location of Pertamina RU VII in Kasim, which was about 100 kilometers from Sorong, demanded special knowledge on law, especially which related to social condition. The location and distance cause the people and environment specially treated.
Iman in his presentation said that there are international instruments related to social responsibility, community and companies. One of the instruments was United Nations Guiding Principles 2011 and ISO 26000 Guidance on Social Responsibility.
Both instruments are voluntary, and have not been obliged for corporations in Indonesia. Even though they are not obligatory yet, both are useful in identifying risks caused by the company and how the company can take measures to lessen the impacts.
In a discussion moderated by Febriyani S. Rahayu, S.H. as Junior Legal Counsel Dispute Management Pertamina RU VII Kasim who is also UNAIR alumnus FH UNAIR, the challenges found in the field were discussed.
Generally, this event was responded positively by the employees of Pertamina RU VII, from manager to field supervisors. Subandi Z as Senior Supervisor Legal Counsel Pertamina RU VII Kasim, appreciated the collaboration with UNAIR in the program. In the future, his division will continue collaboration for other LPP activities. (*)
