UNAIR NEWS – Beside regional level accreditation (AUN-QA), UNAIR has planned to improve educational quality based on international accreditation bodies. If assessment by AUN-QA can reach all programs, then international accreditation can be done by certain institutions with same field of study with the programs to be assessed.
“Such as ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics/Computer Science, the Natural Sciences and Mathematics). ASIIN is worldwide and based in Germany, it focuses on engineering band natural sciences like mathemetics. There is also AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) accreditation which is more to business scene. So, it depends on the program because not all can be accredited by one body,” said the Chairman of Quality Assurance Board (BPM) Universitas Airlangga Prof. Bambang Sektiari Lukiswanto, drh., DEA.
Later on, BPM will work together with each program to find the suitable accreditation body to assess.
Regarding the visit, the professor of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FKH) has not been able to give the dates. In his opinion, each accreditation body has their own processes.
“So, some bodies need us to be their members first, following their workshop. After that there will be guidance, working on self-assessment report, and then it is communicated. After communicated it, they will see whether it can go on to the committee, we will follow the process. The point is, in 2017, there are programs possible for international accreditation,” said BPM Chairman.
Furthermore, the programs to be accredited internationally are also still in consideration. But he encouraged programs accredited A by national Accreditation Agency – Higher Education and certified by AUN-QA to contact international accreditation and have their program tested.
Regarding the assessment standards, BPM chairman said that the standards set by AUN-QA and international level accreditation is not very different. In principle, they also assess the objectives and the learning process such as the expected learning outcomes.
“Actually, the most important thing for us is to do our learning process as best as we can. Then we will find international accreditation body which can assess the program. And after thst, we adjust to their set of standards. We see whether we can meet their standard or not,” he said.
Beside the optimal learning process, international accreditation is also UNAIR target to improve quality to the level of leading universities in the world. (*)
