UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Islamic Economics undergraduate student, Astandi Dinoryan won first place in the International Digital Transformation Challenge (IDTC) competition.

IDTC is an international competition with categories such as essays, posters, and case studies participated by four campuses, including UNAIR, Tenaga Nasional University, Al Falah University Dubai, and Malaya University. In 2022, IDTC was themed: Post-Pandemic Global Economic Recovery Through Digital Transformation.

In the competition, Astandi wrote a paper entitled EVERYNANCE (Economic Recovery with Islamic Social Finance): Optimizing the Role of the MSME and Agricultural Sectors through Zakat and Productive Waqf Funds as an Effort to Advance the National Economy.

In short, he has an idea to maximize the role of zakat and productive waqf to further optimize the role of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (UMKM) and agriculture. According to Astandi, the two sectors have very important position for the Indonesian economy, including to increase the amount of gross domestic product (GDP).

“The number of MSMEs in Indonesia is very large. It is a pity if it is not balanced with good capital. For that, I initiated the capital with productive waqf funds and productive zakat,” said Astandi.

Furthermore, Astandi said that his success in the competition could not be separated from the support of the people around him. Furthermore, participating in the competition requires a strong determination and commitment, especially amid busy schedule of studying and becoming the Head of the Scientific Division at Islamic Economics Student Association.

Astandi also motivated other students to experience opportunities like himself. He believes that the time passed will never return. He suggested the opportunity of being a student should be used well and productively, trying various things to get experiences, and to get many achievements.

Lastly, he conveyed a message to students who often participate in competitions, but have not been lucky enough to become champions. “Keep trying and be enthusiastic about participating in other competitions, because perfect timing is always gonna be yours. So keep trying, make endeavor, pray, rest assured that one day you will be able to achieve your dreams,” he said. (*)
