UNAIR NEWS – The world has entered an era of rapid technological development. Machines are used by humans. Ranging from factory instruments to smart boxes are commonly referred to as smartphones. For the generation of Y, the generation of technology literate, smartphone has become a primary requirement. Therefore UNAIR students managed to innovate to make mobile phone charger by just utilizing the heat of human hands.
From that fact, a group of Physics undergraduate students , Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga, namely Raja Bugatti (team leader), Luqyana Salsabila, Lendy Pradhana, Syahrul Munir, and Vinda Aprilia, made a new innovation.
The innovation called ” Hand Charging, Charge the World”, Charge the Society “was then conveyed through the proposal of Student Creativity Program in the field of Exacta Research (PKM-PE). Under the guidance of his lecturer , Supadi, M.Si., this proposal qualified the Directorate of Higher Education selection and receives research fund from Kemenristekdikti’s PKM program in 2017.
“We are inspired from the heat that exists within the human body by utilizing the thermodynamics and Seeback principles. The human body has ions which carry electricity and generate heat, so it has the potential to be utilized as a charging source for smartphones , “said Raja Bugatti, team leader.
Globally, the idea is inspired by data that the increase in smartphone users in the world, especially in Indonesia, according to Emarketer reaches more than 100 million users. However, these developments actually cause individual stress on the user as a result of the runs out power of the smartphone. Then citing the research results of one of the smartphone companies in China, Indonesia is the most vulnerable to problem stress.

Actually, continued Raja Bugatti, portable charger innovation that already exists, called power bank. But the problem is the limited power that can be stored by the device. So that when it runs out power, the power bank can no longer be used.
This Hand Charging innovation does not have a power limit as the power obtained from the heat from the hands of the smartphone users. Hand Charging can be used anytime and anywhere even in the area with no electricity, Hand Charging is the main choice to charge the smartphones.
The Seeback effect in this innovation applies if two different metals are connected to one end, then given different temperatures at the junction, there is a voltage difference on one end with the other end. The phenomenon is then noticed by Peltier which later referred to as Peltier effect.
By calculating the average adult human skin that is 1.7m² and the average human energy output of 350,000 J per hour, and 1 J / h = 0.00028 W, then the power that can be released by the body every day of 5.7 mW / Cm 2 . With that power, the heat generated by the human body is able to light up the 100 W brightly. (*)
