UNAIR Students Develop Sleep Inducing Therapy For Insomniac Patients

UNAIR NEWS – Insomnia causes people to experience impaired quality of life. Almost everyone in the world has experienced insomnia. Approximately, 30% of adults experience insomnia and 10% of them have insomnia which affects their quality of life.

Some treatments of insomnia been done is using a blindfold that helps regulate light for sleep. Some patients use aromatherapy to create calmness and the use of sleeping pills is also a solution that is often applied.

The fact inspired Invention PKM team from Faculty of Nursing Universitas Airlangga, headed by Anneke Widi Prastiwi (Class of 2013) to create innovative idea which is useful for light insomnia patient. This DIKTI grant program by the group is named Blindfold eye with vibration and aromatherapy .

“The advantage of this tool is viewed from the side of a lightweight and portability,  the tool is also equipped with lavender aromatherapy that works to increase alpha waves and this condition is associated with the state of relaxation,” said Anneke.

Together with four other members, Nusrotud Diana, Aprilia Permata Sari, Wahyu Dwi Septinengtias, and Risniawati, Anneke created lavender aromatherapy that can help treating insomnia, relieving headaches, and reducing stress.

“Beside lavender aromatherapy, this tool is equipped with a vibration that provides massage aimed to provide relaxation for the user,” she added.

For how to use it, Anneke explained that it is very easy and can be done by anyone.

“Simply by using blindfold eye for 20 minutes with sleeping position, insomniacs can already feel the relaxation therapy of this tool,” she concluded.
