UNAIR NEWS – Five students of Faculty Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga are Raihan Anando, Veredita Rusydiana, Izzatidiva Khairunnisa, Zilvana Nurul Iza and Diana Permata Sari managed to make lotion from extract of sea cucumber and banana.
Why from extract of sea cucumber and banana? Raihan Anando, the team leader of the research team said that sea cucumbers have the potential to whiten the skin and works as an anti wrinkle, while the extract of banana has the potential to heal the scar.
Under the guidance of Ir. Elly Ana, M.Si, lecturer of FST Universitas Airlangga, the five students successfully written it as the proposal of Student Creativity Program of Entrepreneurship (PKMK). They are grateful that this proposal has successfully passed the selection of Dikti, so they obtained developmental grant from Kemenristekdikti in PKM 2018.
Raihan said that the initial idea of ​​making this lotion was from a concern for the mindset of people who lack of confidence. They feel less perfect, especially in terms of appearance.
“In addition, there are also abundant sea cucumbers and bananas in Indonesia, so they should be used well to be useful products to improve public confidence in maintaining their skin appearance,” he said.
A research in China showed sea cucumbers are foods that have medical properties. Sea cucumbers can maintain the health and beauty of the skin because it contains many compounds needed for skin to keep it healthy and look more beautiful.
The compounds are collagen, gamma peptide, mucopolysaccharides and Cell Growth Factor. The skin becomes more elastic and brighter because of the cell regeneration process to get adequate nutrition.
The pharmacological effects of bananas are anti-ulcer, wound healer, antioxidant, antidote for snake bites, hypoglycemic, atherogenic and skeletal muscle augmentation.
