UNAIR NEWS – Dream high to the sky. If you fall, you will fall among the stars. A wise sentence from the first president of Indonesia taught to never be afraid of dreaming. A dream is the beginning of someone’s steps to plan and achieve life goals. Without dreams, people will only spend time without knowing the direction to go.
Dreams and youth are two things that cannot be separated. Because, at this age, an individual begins to dream. However, apparently, not a few young people lost hope and forget their dreams due to various reasons and problems.
Therefore, as a form of concern to revive the dreams of youth, UNAIR together with the community initiator of Kejar Mimpi Movement held a Surabaya Leadership Camp event on Saturday, August 11. Being held in Fadjar Kartonagoro Hall, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), the event was attended by hundreds of young people from various cities in East Java.
The activity was a manifestation of UNAIR’s contribution in supporting the Kejar Mimpi (Chasing Dreams) movement initiated in 2017. Surabaya’s Leadership Camp is one of a series of events from Kejar Mimpi.
Themed “Creating Breakthrough for Indonesian Youth”, this Leadership Camp presented inspiring figures as speakers such as East Java Deputy Governor elected Emil Elestianto Dardak; Musician and actress Maudy Ayunda and Sandra Dewi; CIMB Niaga HR Director Heidy Lapian; as well as UNAIR’s doctor and young lecturer, Dr., Indri Lakhsmi Putri Sp. BP-RE (KKF).
The speakers share their life experiences and efforts in achieving dreams. dr. Indri was one of them. She said her struggle to reach her dream was not easy. Indri had various obstacles during her education as many others have felt. However, she shared the key for her success in achieving dreams.
“There are two keys. Never stop trying and praying. Negative thoughts inside often become obstacles to pursuing dreams. They must be avoided, ” she said.
Cevi Agis, the initiator of Kejar Mimpi movement and event coordinator explained that Kejar Mimpi is a social movement that provides support to young people in Indonesia to realize their dreams. Both through campaigns on social media and event performances in several cities in Indonesia. Although relatively new, the movement received tremendous enthusiasm from young people.
From many universities in East Java, UNAIR was chosen because of its reputation as one of the best universities in Indonesia. Cevi was very grateful that UNAIR had supported and helped with the event very well.
“Considering its achievements and location, we chose UNAIR. Moreover, after we contacted Bu Siwi from PPKK, there was a very good response. From the campus, I really appreciate it. So, it can add value to the children of UNAIR and networking events as well, ” Cevi said.
“We want more young people, especially in Surabaya, inspired by the social movement Kejar Mimpi. We want to encourage young people to be brave and never give up, ” he added. (*)
