Suko Widodo as the Head of PIH never thought the film, “Teaching Generation”, would receive this appreciation and win. He said that the film was produced in a short period of time and the competition is from various countries not only Indonesia.
“At first, we weren’t sure would win because the time to make it was not long. We had to do some research as well to picture the history of UNAIR from time to time,” said Suko.
“We’re grateful, this award will trigger us to work even better. This recognition really makes us proud,” he added.
Inspired by Long History of UNAIR
“Teaching Generation” is about a family whose members have studied in UNAIR for four generations. The main protagonists, Suroso, Sri, Jono and Selly have studied in UNAIR in different faculties and different times.
The director of “Teaching Generation” is Redo Nomadore, an alumnus of International Relations FISIP UNAIR. Redo never thought his work would get such positive responses.
“This heritage video project was one of the most challenging projects I have handled. The production process was quite interesting as we had to look for historical sites in Surabaya,” Redo stated.

At first, Redo was inspired from the long history of UNAIR in educating the nation. Sin 1913, started from the origin of Faculty of Medicine, the university has transformed into an institution that always develops from time to time.
Some sites for the set of the film were an old house in Dinoyo; Jalan Gula, North Surabaya; Heroes Monument; Jalan Rajawali; and also Campus A of UNAIR as the icon. There was thorough research for the film story development.
“We tried our best to be precise. We did some research for the PETA, Dutch and Japanese troop uniforms, radio model, fashion style for each period and many more,” he explained.
Four Periods
The four main characters in the film were supported by dozens of characters to illustrate four different periods of Indonesian history. First is the colonialism period, in 1924 to be precise, the film illustrates NIAS school, the origin of UNAIR. The second is the period of independence in 1945. The third is in the 80s, a period when UNAIR developed rapidly and the fourth is the present time, 2017.
Redo, who has produced some conceptual and descriptive films, was pleased that his work has won silver trophy for the most creative corporate video competition. For this achievement, he thanked all parties supported this film.
“Thank you for UNAIR which has given me guidance and freedom for me and my team at HINTERHOV to explore. Also, to the team of PIH UNAIR which always supports all the processes,” elaborated Redo. (*)
