UNAIR NEWS – Nusantara Jaya Expedition (ENJ) Delegation left for West Nusa Tenggara on Saturday, August 11. By Passenger Motor Boat (KMP) Legundi, ENJ UNAIR team headed to the target location in Slemang 2, Rembitan Village, Pujut Sub-district, Central Lombok Regency.
“We left at 08.15 from basecamp in Kedinding Tengah area, Surabaya, heading to Tanjung Perak Port. As we have to load the goods first, we have to leave early,” said Rizal Andi, one of the ENJ delegates from the Faculty of Humanities (FIB) UNAIR.
Arriving at Lembar Harbor, West Lombok Regency, ENJ UNAIR team had to drive a cow truck for approximately two hours to get to Slemang 2 hamlet. Along the way to Slemang, there were many tents set up by residents to shelter from the earthquake.
“The tents were built by residents for sleeping at night, because they were afraid of aftershocks at night. However, because of the large number of people who sleep outside, there is a possible theft at home, they must always be vigilant, “said Sinto, a Faculty of Law student who is also of Sasak tribe.
Arriving at Slemang 2 hamlet, the team was welcomed warmly by local residents. There is something unique in that greeting. The dish served was sayur dadar. This soup resembles sayur asem in Java. The difference is, it contains unpealed peanuts and soybeans.
“This (sayur dadar, ed) is a typical Sasak tribe soup dish which is served to welcome guests,” said Bastoni, one of the Sasak people who welcomed the ENJ UNAIR team.
After eating, the next activity was the introduction of members of ENJ 2018 UNAIR to the people of Sasak Tribe of Slemang 2. The meaning of amak and inak, the way to address there was also explained by the residents.
“Amak means father while Inak means mother. I am called Amak Bastoni. It means I am the father of my first child named Bastoni. “Amak and inak are used before their children’s names,” added Bastoni with a Lombok accent.
After welcoming event with the Sasak people, the next agenda was the activity with residents, where all ENJ UNAIR 2018 delegates toured Slemang hamlet and introduced themselves to every citizen found on the street.
Forthe next two weeks, there will be activities that will be carried out by the ENJ UNAIR team in Slemang 2 hamlet such as slaughtering sacrificial animals during Eid al-Adha; teaching; school renovation; dissemination of hypertension, brushing teeth, and washing hands; August 17 ceremony and competitions; distribution of school bags to elementary students. They will also hold an English Class, Campus Expo , and livestock health dissemination. (*)
