UNAIR NEWS  – In order to meet the demand for professional industrial workers, the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga, is now “spreading its wings” to Gresik Regency. It was marked by the opening of new classes for three study programs, Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Three-year vocational (D3) program, Medical Laboratory Technology D3 program, and Imaging Radiology Technology Four-year vocational (D4) program.

The Dean of the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Universitas Airlangga Prof. Dr. Anwar Ma’ruf, M. Kes., drh., explained this expansion. The professor said that in the future, Gresik would become the Vocational Center of Universitas Airlangga. It is following the mandate of the Rector, Prof. Moh Nasih.

“This year, we have an assignment from the Rector. He wanted areas around Surabaya, such as Gresik and Sidoarjo, to become UNAIR Vocational Centers,” he said to the UNAIR News Team on Saturday morning, August 21, 2021.

Gresik region was chosen because apart from its close geographical location, the Faculty of Vocational Studies has established a Nursing Study D3 Program in Gresik.

The three Faculty of Vocational Studies study programs in Gresik received a warm welcome from Gus Yani as the Regent of Gresik. His party supports Gresik as a Vocational Center for UNAIR, especially to support JIIPE, a giant industrial area in Gresik.

Gus Yani’s support was also realized by providing land grants to Universitas Airlangga. It is still one row next to the Ibnu Sina Hospital.

“We have established close cooperation with the Regent of Gresik. He even joined the promotion yesterday to the community, “said Prof Anwar.

“There will be another development in Campus B. It is overloaded. Therefore, we see that Gresik is very suitable as UNAIR vocational center,” he added.

So what is the fate of the Faculty of Vocational Studies in the main campus? According to Prof. Anwar, his party has received an order from the Rector to conduct an analysis. As a result, several study programs will remain in Surabaya, while some others will soon be opened in Gresik.

“We analyzed which study programs should stay in Surabaya and which study programs should we open in Gresik immediately,” he explained.

After the addition of several new classes, there are four study programs in Gresik, three study programs at D3 level and one at D4 level.

Prof Anwar said, this year, the three newly added study programs have started accepting new students. Even though it has just opened, the public’s interest is very high. With 30 seats available for each study program, the number of registrants has exceeded five times.

The Gresik D3 Nursing Study Program is the same. With 100 quotas, 800 prospective students registered this year. (*)
