UNAIR NEWS – Being a student means being able to do some useful things. Not only as learner, some students spend their time to do community service, for example Maulana Satria Aji and friends conducts community service based on literacy called “Sinau 12”.
The activity is held at Balai RW 12, Sidotopo Jaya 2A, Surabaya from 19.00 -20.00 every Wednesday and Saturday. The volunteers are from Public Health Student, they teach the primary kids grade 1 until 6 who live in surrounding area. The most interesting thing, the activity uses moral approach to improve their soft skill. So they know not only about the school courses but also soft skill.
“Sinau 12 uses moral approach such as teaching about manner and pray over everything, it’s aimed to improve their soft kill since they are kid,” he said.
He said that this idea for this literacy activity was from his experience he initiated the similar program in near his home where there are many kids with low literacy level. This activity also supported by youth organization and people around.
The kids have high enthusiasm for this. They did homework, memorized Pancasila and learnt about cleanliness. Rio, one of the participants in Sinau 12 said that this activity is so useful for him, because he can study in a fun way with guidance from Sinau 12.
“The activity is fun and the tutors are kind ,” he said.
Aji hoped through this activity, the students can conduct the community services and bring some changes.
“The goal of Sinau 12 is giving the students opportunity to apply their knowledge to the community, so it can be useful for others,” he added.
