UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga keeps upgrading the quality towards world class university. One of efforts is to initiate serious discussion yet casual of international students, the official and also student affairs board.

The forum namely “Lunch with International Students” was attended by 230 international students of UNAIR from various programs, such as the scholarship recipient of Kemitraan Negara Berkembang, Darmasiswa, AMERTA Program, and also international student of master and doctoral degree.

The vice rector I UNAIR Prof. Djoko Santoso,dr.,Ph.D, Sp.,PD.,K-GH  wished that there would be some advices from international student related to academic and non-academic affairs. “Because, now we are going to be a world-class University. Thus, your presence is very important here,” Djoko Said.

The preliminary discussion was about the topic of research publication. A student who has been doing his doctoral degree at Faculty of Public Health said that a lot of routine tasks and short time study made the number of publication research was less. In regarded to it, the vice rector I said that the publication is a requirement of an academician. Moreover, currently the government issued the policy obliges master and doctoral student to publish the article in journal.

“Doctoral study has more requirements than master. In your country, every student will meet the policy,” Djoko said

In the discussion was not only talk about academic but also about student affairs. Coordinator of student community of student affairs directorate, Deny Yasmara, M.Kep told that all the student community in UNAIR was wide open and welcome for international student to join in the club.

There are 40 student community in UNAIR consist of spirituality, self-defense, art, sport and specialty.

“International student can join the student clubs. Just come to student center and ask for joining. You all can join the clubs for free,” Deni said

The head of International Office and Partnership, Dian Ekowati, Ph.D, told that the forum was the first time held by the unit she lead in. According to her, internationalization process was completely no easy task. So, the evaluation step is by hearing advices from international student.

“Because they are important element for internationalization. So, we would like to hear some advices from them,” Dian Said
