Bidikmisi Goes to School, Introduces UNAIR to Remote Area

UNAIR NEWS – Bidikmisi Goes to Shool (BMGTS) is the oldest work program in Airlangga University Bidikmisi Organization (AUBMO, ed). It cooperates with UNAIR’s directorate of student affairs to share information on bidikmisi and UNAIR. The event was held during semester break that covered 86 regencies and cities across Indonesia.

The main mission of BMGTS is to motivate the golden generation of Indonesia so that they will know information about universities, especially for families from lower class of community. In addition, BMGTS is also determined to eliminate public opinion that college is for people with money.

According to Tegar Dimas, as the Head of BMGTS, the reason for the BMGTS program is because most of the information on bidikmisi is only obtained by the children in the city only, while information is limited in the villages so UNAIR’s student affairs initiated BMGTS program together with AUBMO.

“BMGTS was followed by less than 30 bidikmisi students at first, but now alhamdulillah more than 600 students bidikmisi are eager to follow this activity,” said the student of Anthropology.

Tegar also said that behind the success of BMGTS, it also had various problems. The difficulty of managing time between student and the directorate became the main problem of the activity. In addition, many schools are very focused on the National Examination so they are not interested in BMGTS. On the other hand, many schools in areas have not been registered in PDSS because the school has not understood the flow of bidikmisi registration.

Tegar hoped that with the BMGTS, all the problems faced by schools about bidikmisi can be resolved. Students who are constrained by economic conditions are not easily discouraged, and dare to try.

“This is an experience that I will never forget forever. I can only say thanks to the BMGTS committee and the great BMGTS participants. I learned many things from them. In addition, I am also grateful to AUBMO and the ministry of community service that has trusted me. All of them are great! Continue success!, “he concluded.
