UNAIR NEWS – Community Service Program (KKN) of 60th Thematic Community Study (BBM) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) Surabaya focuses on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM). The program was held in Kedung Cowek Sub-District, Bulak District, Surabaya on July 2-27.
UMKM Kerang Bunda is empowerment center for UNAIR Community Service Program in Surabaya. It has a variety of processed shellfish and fishery products; the program has permits from both the city and provincial levels. However, they still waiting for the submission process of export product certification.
Based on the survey, Davin Rianda explained the UMKM owners needed the help of workers for packing, label and design, bookkeeping, logo, and marketing. Furthermore, the products use the consignment principle (the act of giving over to another person or agent’s charge, custody or care any material or goods but retaining legal ownership until the material or goods are sold.)
“In my opinion, our business is growing. It has been marketed in several places, both offline and online. However, every UMKM certainly needs to have innovation whether in its products, marketing, or others, “he said.
There are five work programs implemented by Kedung Cowek Community Service. Namely, socialization of poisoned fish after being processed by residents, products online marketing, products innovation, making catalogs, and actively participating in bazaars.
Kedung Cowek Community Service Program also helps in offline product marketing and branding, by participating in the event and at a souvenir center in Surabaya. Besides, by making video production, which will be uploaded on Instagram to attract consumers, globally. Branding is also carried out by making a neatly designed product catalogs by KKN team.
Davin explained that Kedung Cowek Community Service Program also empowered UMKM in health and education fields. He also hopes that the business will remain active and continue to innovate in making a product.
“Hopefully, the residents are inspired by UMKM in Surabaya to innovate in making other products,” he concluded. (*)
