UNAIR NEWS – The National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) XV in Makassar, continues to rumble in the fifth day, Wednesday, October 18. As well as in the previous POMNAS event, POMNAS team from Indonesian Student Sport Supervisory Board (BAPOMI), it is still difficult to take the top position from DKI Jakarta.
The capital city as the center of the various National Training camps of sports, is still too powerful. Its closest competitors are BAPOMI West Java, East Java, and Central Java. But at this 15th POMNAS in “Anging Mamiri” City, the host South Sumatra was at the third position.
In the latest standing until the fifth day, Wednesday, October 18, DKI Jakarta was leading at the top with 29 gold, 18 silver and 16 bronze medals (29-18-16). The second position was West Java with the composition of medals 18-15-16. Sulsel grabbed 11-7-11, while East Java at the top four with 9 gold, 15 silver, 20 bronze (in the new standings shown 10 bronze medals).

“That is the best and maximum result that we can dedicate with the champion athletes of POMDA or Selekda, and not the best student athletes owned by East Java from 30 universities,” said Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes., Head of East Java BAPOMI Contingent in POMNAS Makassar, during daily evaluation at Hotel Grand Asia Makassar on Wednesday, October 18 night.
“So in the participation of POMNAS in 2017, the current power of East Java is different from previous POMNAS. So staying at the top five, it’s alhamdulillah, ” he added.
East Java in the fifth day won a lot of silver medal. It added 15 more silver medals. Jatim athletes failed to be the best, mostly in the final dealing with the DKI Jakarta athletes and the “power” of the host South Sulawesi.
Until the fifth day, the biggest contribution was from the swimming branch which won 3 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze (3-5-4), then Tarung Derajat who has finished their mathes by reaching 2-3-3. Chess donated 1 gold, 5 silver, 3 bronze medals. Furthermore athletics won 1 gold and 4 silver medals.
“Both the men and women sepak takraw faced the home team in the final. If not confronted by non-technical situation, takraw Jatim can both win the gold. But only the women team, while the men’s team won silver, “said Edy Mintarto.
Other medals of the East Java team are Pencak Silat (0-1-5 / unfinished), then Karate (also unfinished) which snatched 1 silver, Petanque 3 bronze, and badminton 1 bronze medal in team event.
East Java team consisting of student athletes from Unesa, UNAIR, UB, UM, Ubaya, and dozens of private universities, may still add their gold medal collection, because the athletes will compete in the final round, for example in two tennis field event, martial arts, karate, kempo, basketball, and indoor volleyball .
