East Java Gubernatorial Election, UNAIR Not Involved in Practical Politics

UNAIR NEWS – “Again we affirm that UNAIR has never been involved in practical politics”. That’s the assertion made by Suko Widodo, M.Si., as Head of Information and Public Relations Center (PIH), Universitas Airlangga, related to the circulation of photo of UNAIR Rector supporting for one candidate in Gubernatorial Election (Pilgub) of East Java on 27 June.

Suko said that UNAIR Rector never made any related statement about East Java Gubernatorial Election, especially giving support to one of the candidates.

“Many times, the Rector also asserted that UNAIR maintains its purity as the institution of education which is always neutral related to leadership election,” added Suko.

Rector’s statement which says “Do not let UNAIR alumni fight by themselves. We must support each other for mutual progress. For the advancement of UNAIR alma mater and for the triumph of Satria Airlangga “is the usual rector statement delivered during a meeting with alumni.

“During meetings with alumni, the rector always conveyed that message. It is a universal message to motivate all UNAIR alumni to be able to realize his ideals. So, it has nothing to do with supporting practical politics, “said Suko.

Furthermore, Suko reiterated that as a part of public and academic community should be intelligent not to trust irresponsible news.

“As a State University, again, we are neutral and not involved in practical politics,” he concluded. (*)
