Eco-friendly product, Excelzyme, to be Mass Produced

UNAIR NEWS – The eco-friendly product called Excelzyme produced by Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., biochemistry researcher of UNAIR will be mass produced soon. The agreement of mass production was stated in the partnership agreement signed by UNAIR and PT. Petrosida Gresik, on Wednesday (8/3) in the plenary room, Management Office Building UNAIR.

The agreement was signed by Rector of UNAIR Prof. Dr. M. Nasih, S.E., M.T., Ak and president Director of PT. Petrosida Gresik Hery Widyatmoko and witnessed by Director of Industrial Development of PT.Petrosida Gresik, Dr.Eng, Hotmatua Daulay, M.Eng

The creator of Excelzyme, Prof. Nyoman, said that the chemical which is usually used for pulp and paper processing poses harsh impact for environment. She used agricultural waste often found in Indonesia. This agricultural waste is the hay which contains biomass and processed enzymically.

“This enzyme can be used for pulp and paper bleaching process, so it won’t use the previous chemical like chloride and proxide. Now, we use Silanase Enzyme,” said the professor in Biochemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) Universitas Airlangga.

Hotmautua responded positively for this success to mass produce the research result to be a product used by the industrial and the public. “This is the best way to face competition,” Hotmatua said.

In addition to Excelzyme, there is another product that will be mass produced., birth control pills for male made of Gandarusa (Justicia gendarussa). It is founded by Prof. Dr. Bambang Prajogo, M.S, an expert of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemical UNAIR.

Regarding the two products to be mass-produced, Rector of UNAIR, Nasih motivated the others to produce potential researches. “Many companies will use the product that founded by UNAIR researcher. And there are other researches which can be mass produced by strategic partners,” he said.
