UNAIR NEWS – Gancar Candra Premananto is well known in the environment of Master of Management Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Airlangga. The lecturer and the head of the program has a melodious voice. It was from his hobby of singing, Gancar singing hobby continues until he became a lecturer and study S-3.
According to Gancar, his hobby was not an option. It is a gift from God that must be develoed.
“Since childhood, I have loved arts. I’ve tried all forms of arts, from choirs, comedy, pantomime, cartoons, to painting. When a became a lecturer, I pursue my hobby at singing and acting, “said Gancar.
Gancar combines singing with teaching to give better impression in class. He thinks combining lectures and arts can be an edutainment. In addition, singing can distract the students from being bored when learning.
As time passes, some song material is used by Gancar to teach. Like a song entitled Marketing Two for example. He used it to teach Marketing 2 courses.
Although Gancar is preoccupied with teaching and researching activities, he still makes time for his hobbies. In fact, he had won several competitions. This cannot be separated from the support of his wife and family. In composing some pieces of music, Gancar involves his family as well. Like when recordings songs, video clips, and albums for new learning.
” Alhamdulillah, he has won first place some karaoke competitions. And since then I tried to compose song not just sing, but it should bring meaning, “explained the man born in Surabaya, July 22, 1974.
Album Plan
In early 2017, Gancar started composing songs. First song was called Azzarine then the second song was Kita Berdua, and so on. Until the end of 2017, he has had four songs of his own creation and one cover song, he felt that they were enough to make a mini album.
The plan, there will be a mini album “Sisi Lain” which means that there is another side of a human that must be explored as a form of gratitude to the favors of God.
“In creating the song I based it on two things, Love and God. That love must be done by remembering Him. So it is not a mellow love song which only make the hearts of listeners swayed, but a love song that makes us remember God, “said Gancar.
“I am also inspired from daily routines on how we interact with God, Prophet Muhammad SAW, spouses, family, and other social relations,” explained the man who studied S-3 at University of Gadjah Mada.
Gancar said, the process of making a song takes a relatively long time due to his inability of playing a musical instrument. So, he must send a sound recording to the music arranger. Overall, from making music to video clip, Gancar needs weeks.
One of Gancar’s works is Kala Cinta Tak Berbalas make people mistaken and think he fell in love again. In fact, this song tells that socializing with other people can often disappoint with the reply.
“Sometimes we do good things, but they got negative reply. Like the love of God and Prophet Muhammad SAW to his people who are often unrequited. So, maybe our job is to love and give, no matter what their reply, “said Gancar.
In the future, Gancar hoped that anything he does can bring benefits to others. Therefore, this book and mini album sales released in early 2018 will be used for humanitarian social support to the Red Crescent Indonesia humanitarian organization.
“From arts activities, I want to convey to students, especially Master of Management students, that managers must have a hobby. They must sharpen the right brain because creativity and innovation are not developed relying on the left brain which is used for analyzing, “he hoped. (*)
