Internal Department of BEM FF Airlangga University Holds Thesis Ready Event to Provide an Early Picture of Thesis Topics in KBK

Internal Department of BEM Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Airlangga (FF UNAIR) held a 2023 Thesis Ready event on Saturday (8/4/2023). The event was held via Zoom with a total of 120 participants attending. This activity aims to provide an initial overview to students, especially semester 6 students who will soon be carrying out their thesis, regarding the thesis topics provided by the faculty and those being worked on by the 2019 class students, especially the thesis topics in the KBK Pharmaceutical Chemistry .

“The Thesis Ready Event is intended for all students of the Airlangga University Faculty of Pharmacy who want to gain insight into the title and experience of the thesis from the presenters,” said Zahra Penta Apsari, as Chief Executive for Thesis Ready 2023.

On this occasion, BEM FF Unair invited Prof. Dr. apt. Juni Ekowati, M.Si. as the main speaker and three student speakers for class 2019, Darwin Ryan, Basith Albaroni, and Amelia Ghaisani. The three of them are currently working on and have been working on a thesis with each of the topics available in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry KBK.

According to Prof. In June, there were a number of things that students were worried about, including the amount of money that had to be spent and the existence of special conditions if they wanted to take a particular topic. “Students can apply for research fee waivers by communicating with their supervisors. Meanwhile, there are no special requirements for the thesis topic in the Pharmaceutical Chemistry KBK, apart from the main requirements, namely taking available topics and passing certain courses, “said Prof. Juni.

The explanation from the three invited speakers, namely the first, was delivered by Darwin Ryan who took the topic of synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry thesis. The thesis topic raised by Prof. Juni himself focuses on the process of synthesizing new compounds and computing their activity with receptors. In this case, it is ferulic acid as an inhibitor of angiogenesis or the formation of new blood vessels by cancer cells.

Darwin said that in preparing the stages of the process of synthesizing new compounds, an appropriate frame of mind is needed. “This frame of mind will later help us present at the proposal seminar because our understanding of our topic is comprehensive,” he added.

Furthermore, Basith Albaroni and Amelia Ghaisani had the opportunity to convey the topic of their thesis. Basith took the topic of analysis, while Amelia chose Microbiology as the topic of her thesis, which they explained simultaneously in one segment at the Ready Thesis event this time. Briefly, Basith explained the topic of Analytical Chemistry, including optimization, validation, and analysis of a drug compound and its activities. The topic of analysis is broadly divided into instruments that focus more on the tools and software used in the analysis process, such as TLC and UV-Vis Spectrophotometers, as well as microbiology, which unfortunately does not accommodate students.

By knowing a number of KBK Pharmaceutical Chemistry thesis topics as explained by the speakers, it is hoped that it will be able to embed an understanding that there are many things that must be prepared before its execution, starting from preparing mentally, knowing interests, determining topics, to developing a frame of mind.

Another thing that is no less important in preparing a thesis is to identify existing problems earlier, one of which is by participating in this event.
