FTMM NEWS – Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a new revelation in this changing modern world. Over the last few decades, there were so many inventions that have changed the way we live today. AI can be considered one of the most recent ones that are expected to have a promising future in the upcoming years. AI is indeed an astonishing technology. However, it also has its own advantages and disadvantages.
In the previous few years, AI was expected to develop too fast and displace humans. Currently, AI is continuously developing. Its development has led to some predictions that it will negatively affect the world economy. It is thought that AI will increase unemployment rates. This claim is based on the idea that AI is so advanced that it may displace humans.
Two main arguments were suggested by the ones who agreed that AI will displace humans. Firstly, all the remarkable, extraordinary applications of AI emphasise the point of view that AI has enough capability to displace people from their jobs. For example, some office workers, waiters in restaurants, and guards in buildings can be displaced by some kind of robot. Moreover, all these workers will face crucial difficulties competing with AI because of their low potential ability to develop their skills. Considering this aspect, what can a restaurant waiter develop to compete with a robot? Second, AI technology is different from previous ones. In other words, if computers have taken some people’s jobs, computers still need other people to operate them. Nevertheless, AI enables robots to be able to work on their own without any human interference except for some regular reparations checks.
On the other hand, all pessimistic opinions can be rejected with two main arguments. Firstly, it can also be said that AI’s advancement will help people become more productive. For instance, instead of imagining AI taking the jobs of authors, why not imagine that AI enables authors to write in a shorter time, with more quantity, and with better quality? Secondly, there were many innovations in many kinds of technologies over the last century. These advancements have displaced humans in some jobs but they also created other jobs. For example, people who used to work in accounting before inventing computers. They used to do all the calculations manually. After inventing computers, they lost their jobs but, on the bright side, computers have opened another field of accounting. Besides that, computers have created unpredictable jobs, such as technicians, graphic designers, programmers, etc.
From all previous claims, it can be said that AI has negative and positive sides. No one can claim that AI is not beneficial or claim that AI does not have negative impacts. In the next few years, people’s use of AI technologies is expected to increase. Therefore, we can say that the future will reveal the effects of AI on our current world. All we can do now is wait and hope for the best.(mar/and)
