UNAIR NEWS – Wellness is cheap, but when you fall sick, it might get expensive. Therefore, wellness is a luxury. The expression holds an important principle to determine a healthy lifestyle, which leads to work-life balance.
To achieve a healthy lifestyle, UNAIR facilitated the academic staff and academicians to get free medical check-ups at the Management Hall of Universitas Airlangga on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
The medical check-up covers the early detection of disease or any disorder. Besides, the medical check-up helps plan proper treatment methods before the disease worsens.
The program was followed by a talk show held by the Airlangga Health Promotion Center (AHPC). The organizers invited three speakers from various backgrounds. In the first session, Nutritionist Qonita Rachmah G Gz MSc explained a balanced diet to control Noncommunicable disease (NCD). In the second session, the Geriatric Team of Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya, represented by Dr. Rida Haryono, Neurologist and Consultant, explored brain exercise to prevent Alzheimer’s. The last session with psychology expert, Listyati Setyo Palupi S Psi M Dev Prac., discussed stress management.
The talk show underlined that the risk of serious diseases could not be underestimated, especially the ones caused by unhealthy and non-nutritious food.
“We should start modifying our lifestyle comprehensively. Eating is like saving. If we save the good parts, our health status will be even better,” Qonita said.
“But, if we save the bad parts, such as fat, glucose, and natrium, then wait for it. Anticipate the risk of serious diseases.”

Balanced Nutrition Guidelines
Therefore, Qonita suggested implementing the balanced nutrition guidelines by selecting the food variation, living a healthy lifestyle, exercising, and monitoring the ideal weight.
The session was followed by another talk show with the Geriatric Team. dr Rida Haryono led the brain exercise with the audience to train the brain’s elasticity and concentration. These will help the brain think properly and prevent Alzheimer’s.
“An older brain is not a bad thing. As we get older, a healthy brain will get even brighter,” he said.
Balance
In the last session, psychology expert Listyati Setyo Palupi gave some tips to reach the work-life balance phase. Work-life balance is measured by someone’s ability to balance the responsibility between professional and personal one.
Therefore, someone has to carefully select a balanced diet and do physical activity, like work and exercise regularly. Work-life balance will improve productivity and reduce health costs, if someone is highly aware of their healthy lifestyle.
