UNAIR NEWS – As one of the best universities in Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga is committed to eradicating the three sins in the national education system, including sexual violence.
The commitment was realized in the formation of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Task Force (Satgas PPKS), which was fully supported by UNAIR Rector Prof Dr Mohammad Nasih SE MT Ak according to the Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Permendikbud Ristek) No 30 2021.
The Rector’s support was conveyed in the meeting with the UNAIR PPKS task force on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, in Balairua Room, Management Building, UNAIR Campus C. The UNAIR PPKS task force attended the meeting, which consists of two lecturers, two administrative staff, and five students.
Prof Nasih said that the PPKS task force aims to reduce the sexual violence cases in campus. One of the methods used to handle the case is using a victim-based perspective.
He hoped that sexual violence prevention could be done at the earliest, such as during admission of student, lecturer, academic staff selection, and other preliminary periods.
UNAIR PPKS task force chief, Prof Dra Myrtati Dyah Artaria MA Ph.D. proposed some ideas for preventing and treating sexual violence in UNAIR. The ideas align with the Rector’s regulation according to the Permendikbud Ristek No 30 2021 on improving infrastructure vulnerable to sexual violence and socializing standard operating procedures in the prevention and handling of sexual violence.
Furthermore, Prof Myrta also hoped that the synergy between UNAIR PPKS task force, UNAIR Help Center, and Airlangga Inclusive Learning in handling sexual violence could be implemented immediately.
In the end, she suggested the institution conduct mental health tests for all UNAIR academicians to prevent sexual violence cases. “We believe that the test should be done regularly as a mental illness that leads to sudden sexual violence” she explained.
