RSUA Telemedicine, RS UNAIR Latest Innovation

UNAIR NEWS – Teaching Hospital of Universitas Airlangga has developed a new technology to simplify referral patient service. This technology is called “RSUA Telemedicine”. Now, the application can be downloaded by Android phones users.

The application was launched during “Telemedicine Symposium: Healthcare Service Innovation through Heath Science Institute Development”, in Dharmawangsa Hall RS UNAIR on Wednesday, February 8. The launching was witnessed by Director of RS UNAIR Prof. Dr. Nasronudin, dr., Sp.PD., K-PTI, with officials and representatives of other hospital and puskesmas in Surabaya.

In RSUA Telemedicine application, the users are the medical staff of Emergency Installation (IGD) of the related healthcare facility. To join RSUA Telemedicine, the medical staff must have user account. The healthcare facility representative can register to RS UNAIR. After that, RS UNAIR will survey the healthcare facility. After the survey, the healthcare facility management will sign a memorandum of understanding. Later on, every healthcare facility will get one user account with a password.

With successful registration, IGD team from the healthcare facility can communicate with medical team of IGD RS UNAIR as stated by Tedy Apriawan, dr., Sp.BS., from the app development team.

In the communication process, IGD team of a healthcare facility should give complete condition of patient. “RSUA Telemedicine is used to improve healthcare service, especially for the main referral system. Hopefully, when we refer a patient, there is complete data of physical exam, diagnosis and therapy. The only way to do it is through telemedicine. We can add pictures, complete information from the therapy and diagnosis,” said Tedy.

When the data is retrieved, IGD team of RS UNAIR will discuss and determine best treatment for the patient and prepare the supporting medical equipments. Hopefully, the patient can be saved from danger immediately.

“With the complete medical records or data, we must prepare the equipments we need here. For example, the patient had multi-trauma, from the head to the feet, when the patient is referred to us, we will move immediately based on the patient’s medical condition,” said the surgeon of RS UNAIR.

At the moment, the application is available to use. In the near future, RS UNAIR will promote the use of RSUA Telemedicine application. The next plan, RS UNAIR team will develop application with even more sophisticated technology, such as video call. System development will be done for the next few months.

To support this application use, RS UNAIR has collaborated with  St. Mary Hospital, Japan. They will attend the training and learn about the information system of the telemedicine application.

Director of RS UNAIR during interview said that RSUA Telemedicine innovation is a step to deal with disparity of healthcare facilities. With the application, patients are expected to get the right and quality treatment. Furthermore, with this excellent team of doctors and facilities of RS UNAIR, the innovation will support to achieve the vision of the best teaching hospital.
